When it comes to the family of Fiat Chrysler vehicles, Dodge definitely stands out as the high performance brand. This is especially true when you look at the popular Charger and Challenger models. Moreover, Dodge has stuck to its muscle-car past with its more recent vehicle releases. The lowest price Dodge vehicle is the Dart (soon to be discontinued). Among the more popular models are the Journey crossover as well as the Challenger and Charger.

HistoryWhen it was founded, Dodge was known as the Dodge Brothers Company. In the early 1900s, the company was a simple machine shop owned by two brothers. The Dodge Brothers Company supplied parts and assemblies to the other automakers based in Detroit.
In 1914, the Dodge brothers began to create their own automobiles in a nearby factory called the Dodge Main Factory. They kept this name until it closed in 1980. Upon the Dodge brothers’ deaths in 1920, the company was sold to Dillon, Read & Co. before being re-sold to Chrysler.
The first vehicle to leave the Dodge Main Factory was the four-cylinder Dodge Model 30/35 touring car, which was marketed as an upscale version of Ford’s Model T. Even at this early date, the Model 30/35 used standard features that would be taken for granted in future generations. This included being comprised of an all-steel body (most cars at this time were still wooden-framed) and a 12-volt electric system (6-volts was standard then and would remain so until the 1950s).
